magazine advert analysis

artist: the bronx
genre: punk rock

generic conventions: band name clearly shown across the poster, information wished to be shown clearly written. only relevant info on the advert to make it obvious and not to bore the audience by having to read into it to much, an image to attract the viewer.

font style lettering: the font seems to be a hand made one as it looks to be hand drawn either by hand or on a computer, this may be so that the reader feels that the band have put some effort into the product and that they don't take themselves to seriously.

sound: The sound of this band is very brash and aims to make a statement much like many other bands in a similar genre. The sound is reflected on the album cover because it is not an image that would be used for a mainstream artist.

colour: not real colours as there is no photo, predominantly blue background, orange fire coming from the gray buildings, the band name also in blue. no real impact from the colours, but maybe the fire may be eye catching.

image: the image is of a cartoon Mexican wrestler. the wrestler is masked and also has wings, a wrestling wearing a costume and belt. the wrestler seems to be jumping/flying away from havoc behind him as there is a gray city of buildings on fire there is also smoke.

mise-en-scen: the poster contains a cartoon image which fills the hole advert, the main attraction is the winged wrestler of whom is flying/jumping away from a fire. the fire is issueing from a city of buildings, different shade of blue create a smoke effect. the background is plain blue. band name clearly written across the bottom, also across the bottom is the bands suport acts, the date of there gig and the venue.

representation: there is allot of representation in this advert in non obvious places, for examplethe wrestler may come across as a random picture with no relevence when actually the wrestler actually represents their heritage, i think the band did this to show the pride for what they do but also to show how they respect the heritage just like everyone else which brings them down to earth. i also feel the wings represent libberation and that maybe they feel their music can help people out of troubled times represented by the fire, howevr there may be a second meaning to the to the fire in that it might not be serious but to show that there gig will be fun and they will in a way tear up the city when they play thier gig. finally i also belive that the hand drawn nature of the advert show that the band care about it in that more effort has been put into producing it for the thier fans.
