magazine advert

artist: H2O
genre: punk/rap

generic conventions: band name clearly written across the top, information wished to be shown clearly written. image which relates to the band music and desired audience. abstract colours used to give the image a unreal look.

font style/lettering: trade mark lettering for the name of the band, always found on their merchandise, the block white and black font and the smaller 2 is very clever because potential buyers will easily recognise the album just by there name font of which is used on all there merchandise eg posters, t-shirts. supporting bands in red and there own lettering so as to stand out because there names are a smaller size than the main band H2O. the written information is written clearly in black, block capitals so as to clearly make the information readable.

sound: The sound of this band is quite brash and aims to make a statement much like many other bands in a similar genre but there is also some humor and lighter sounds so as to contradict themselves. The sound is reflected on the album cover because it is not an image that would be used for a mainstream artist.

colour: not real colours as the photo has been edited to give a blue overall colour which is separated by different shades of blue to show the image (in the same way black and white works), predominantly blue background to show how the gig would be dark, the whole image has a kind of news paper effect which gives texture, the bottom section is white so that the writing is made clearer.

image: the image is of the main singer crowd suffering on top of their audience how seem to be singing along the image is blue so as to make a fantasy feel to the image.

mise-en scene: pro dominantly blue background. band name written across the top in there band font. underneath are the names of the supporting bands in a red font colour, under that is the chosen image used an image of the lead singer crowd surfing, and still singing. the the bottom section there is a straight cut where there is a strip of white where the venue date and time of the band s gig is shown.

representation:the main source of representation in this magazine advert is the imaged used. i believe this image shows allot about he band and the way they look at the music industry and feel about themselves. to some people this image may put them off going to the bands gig this may be due to the way that the image is made to look quite dark and also the feel of aggression. but this may have been done so that the poster only attracts the type of people how can look past that and see the fun in the picture and the and how the aggression shown is part of that fun and the way that they don't want to be mainstream but instead rore urban and brash.
